🧭 Trip Planning Resources
Over the years, I’ve discovered a handful of websites and online tools that have made traveling with our Casita easier, safer, and a whole lot less stressful. Whether I’m planning our next adventure, searching for a dump station, checking the weather, or looking for the best route, these are the resources I find myself coming back to again and again.
I’m not affiliated with most of these websites—I simply use them because they work. I hope they make your camping adventures a little easier too.
📱 A quick note: I’m an Android user, so app links on this page will take you to Google Play. If you use an iPhone, many of these apps are also available in the Apple App Store.
🚽 RVDumpSites.net
⛽ GasBuddy
🏕️ Recreation.gov
Find nearby RV dump stations on an interactive map. I keep this one bookmarked on my phone and use it regularly while traveling.
Quickly find nearby fuel stations and compare prices while traveling.
Find and reserve campsites at federal campgrounds across the country.
🌲 FreeCampsites.net
🌌 SkyView Lite
⛈️ RadarNow
One of my favorite free resources for finding boondocking and free camping locations. This is a must-have bookmark on my phone when we’re traveling.
Point your phone at the night sky and SkyView helps identify the stars, planets, and constellations you’re looking at. A fun app to have around the campfire on a clear night.
For safety, I rely on live weather radar when towing my Casita. If it looks like there’s a storm ahead, I check the radar and take precautions if needed.
🏕️ Hipcamp
☀️ Sun Ephemeris
🌌 Dark Skies
A great resource for paid campsites. Zoom into your destination, see prices right on the map, and click any listing for details.
A great free app I use to track the sun’s position—for planning landscape photography and positioning my solar panels for the best sunlight at camp.
If you’re into stargazing like me, this app helps you find the best dark skies across the country, away from light pollution.
🏕️ Road Ready Campers
My step-by-step Casita guides, real-world camping setups, community reports, and the resources I’ve learned to rely on after years of Casita camping.
